Whether you want to believe it or not, as a Waldorf student or teacher, school is not just a place to learn and work, but also a place to live. When parents ask in the late afternoon or evening, where do you come from, the student usually answers, from school. These long days not only challenge the mind, but also strain the nerves. The "Room of Silence" is there to reflect, to think and to find oneself, thus serving to gather one's own strength. Pupils, teachers and parents are given the opportunity to step out of the daily rhythm.
As part of the 2008/2009 architecture epoch, Year 12 was given the task of designing a "Room of Silence". A room was made available for this purpose in the "Übschule" in Marienallee. The design was chosen by the pupils in accordance with the project. The "Room of Silence" consists of two meditation stools, pictures and elements that can help visitors to take a short break from their everyday lives.
Should you feel the need for peace, retreat or undisturbed reflection in the near future, you can visit the Room of Silence at any time.
Cornelius Rabe, 12th grade (2010)
A lot of thought has gone into making the room so open and yet allowing for reception and inner reflection. A space that is always open to everyone. An invigorating space that is not visited or perceived on a daily basis, but very consciously in a school.
This is how the 12th grade class at the time formulated their concern:
"RAUM der STILLE" (Room of Silence) (notice on the door)
The "Room of Silence" is there for a short time to reflect, remember and find yourself. Please take off your shoes, only enter the room with socks! Please do not eat! The room is always open. If not, please let a teacher know! The inventory is for meditation and should not be used for other purposes and should not be added to!
When leaving the room, please make sure that the windows are closed and the room is clean! If there are any problems in any way, please contact the janitor!
Thank you very much"
