Media education project week
Press release by Victoria Meingast, Luise Deppe (Class 8b)
In the week from November 22 to 26, 2021, class 8b of the Freie Waldorfschule Dresden took another intensive look at their self-examination work. Divided into three groups, the class worked on radio, newspapers and film.
The radio group worked on recordings of their self-assessment work, which they then edited and customized. The contributions they produced were broadcast on Coloradio on November 28 from 3 to 4 pm. "Coloradio is a station with an open studio where anyone can present their work, music or anything else, which is a great concept," says Karoline (13).
For the newspaper, the students worked in pairs and wrote about each other's projects. A newspaper was created that will also be published as a supplement to the "Gorier", our school newspaper.
"After learning the basics of film and editing, we created our own storyboard, a little script, and filmed our own little movie about our individual eighth grade project," Flora (13), who was part of the film group, told us.
"It's very important that our young people get to grips with media processes. With the Media Culture Center and Coloradio, we had great partners with whom this was possible. It was a pleasure to watch the pupils work," says Bernhard Fürst, who created the concept for this project week together with Franziska Chalk, the class teacher.
The conceptual background:
The aim of the media education project week, which is being held for the first time in 2021, is to familiarize students with the methods and tools of the journalistic working world. The compulsory self-assessment work in Year 8, which is prepared and presented using journalistic methods, serves as the basis.
In addition to technical skills, the students acquire media competence. They learn and test the mechanisms of the creation and presentation of information with the help of different media and critically examine them. They learn how publicly published information can be questioned and verified.
The project week is divided into three subject areas (radio, newspaper, film). Up to 10 participants can work in each area, whereby each participant can choose one area.
