Why our after-school care center is important

The living situation of families and children has changed considerably in recent decades. The number of single children and single parents, patchwork families and "suitcase children" (where the mother and father change residence at certain intervals) has increased significantly. Working, studying or retraining are often a necessity for both parents. Grandparents who could look after the children are often still working themselves or are not available.

The wide range of media on offer in our society can tempt children into passive consumption. This consumption can paralyze initiative and impair life skills. At the same time, children are less and less likely to experience and help shape real-life processes that take place in the animal and plant world, in the preparation of food or simply in the home. Our everyday lives are permeated by technical devices and aids. This makes many processes and activities more difficult for children to understand. We experience that children seem to be overwhelmed by unstructured daily routines, an increasingly hectic pace, growing pressure to perform and an oversupply of stimuli and experiences.

You can read about how our after-school care center addresses the resulting needs and in some cases creates a relaxing counterbalance in the chapters "Daily and weekly structure", "Nature and seasons" and "Parent work".
