Our teacher training

Teachers who wish to teach at a Waldorf school need a qualification, which is subject to different requirements depending on the federal state. This can be a state teaching qualification or an equivalent qualification, such as those offered at universities and Waldorf seminars. In any case, a Waldorf educational qualification should be sought, possibly through a short additional training course. There are many ways to acquire this qualification. In Germany there are eleven Waldorf teacher training seminars and more than 40 extra-occupational training courses. Some of the teacher training colleges are state-recognized universities, such as the Freie Hochschule Stuttgart and the Alanus University in Alfter. Depending on their professional background and personal possibilities, prospective Waldorf teachers can choose between different training courses: The training can be completed as a full-time course, in several blocks, as a distance learning course or part-time.

Some of the seminaries offer independent training courses to become a teacher at Waldorf schools. The courses differ greatly from one another. A summarized overview can be found in the brochure Dokumentation zur Waldorflehrer:innenbildung - Inhalte, Ziele, Perspektiven.
